From FVG to international markets

Build business across borders

FVGItalia.app supports companies seeking international partners, new markets and cross-border project opportunities.

The region’s position creates natural connections with Austria and Slovenia, while Trieste and the Adriatic corridor support wider relationships with Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and other European markets.

02The map

One region. Multiple markets.

Choose a direction to see where companies in Friuli Venezia Giulia do business — and how far it really is.

Austria and Slovenia, next door.

The only countries that border the region directly. Carinthia and western Slovenia are a short drive away, many companies already work in German and Slovenian, and Gorizia and Nova Gorica share one urban area.

03The neighbours

Two borders. Three languages. One working area.

Austria and Slovenia are not export markets far away: they are neighbours, with shared valleys, shared projects and decades of daily business across the line.

  • Austria

Carinthia and Styria for machinery, wood, energy and tourism; Vienna as the gateway to Central and Eastern Europe. The Tarvisio area is where Italy, Austria and Slovenia meet.

    • Udine–Klagenfurt about 1h30 by road
    • Rail freight from Trieste to Villach and Vienna
    • German widely spoken in business
    Find partners in Austria
  • Slovenia

Ljubljana, the Port of Koper and a dense industrial fabric. Gorizia and Nova Gorica form one cross-border city, and the Collio and Brda wine hills are one landscape.

    • Trieste–Ljubljana about 1h by road
    • Gorizia–Nova Gorica: one urban area
    • Slovenian spoken in many local communities

04The corridor

From the Adriatic to the Western Balkans.

Beyond the two borders, the region looks south-east: to Croatia along the coast, and inland to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro — markets that are close, growing and open to Italian partners.

Priority market

Serbia: the corridor’s largest opportunity.

A manufacturing base that keeps growing, a large domestic market and a strong appetite for Italian machinery, components, furniture, building materials and food. Belgrade is reachable by rail and road from Trieste, and Serbia is an EU candidate country.

The team behind FVGItalia.app has its roots and business network in Serbia — so introductions there come with local knowledge and contacts.

  • Croatia

EU and euro-area member along the Adriatic: ports, shipyards, tourism and hospitality projects, and a natural partner for maritime and logistics companies.

    Partners in Croatia
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina

Metalworking, wood and furniture, energy and construction — with Sarajevo and Banja Luka as business centres and long-standing ties to Italian industry.

    Partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Montenegro

Tourism, hospitality and real-estate development on the coast, the Port of Bar, and growing demand for design, contract furniture and services.

    Partners in Montenegro

These countries are part of the wider Adriatic and Balkan business corridor — they do not border Friuli Venezia Giulia.

06The Port of Trieste

Where the Adriatic meets Central Europe.

A deep-water port at the northern tip of the Adriatic, with direct rail links to the heart of Europe and a free-port regime that dates back to the 18th century.
